My baby boy still loves to hold my hand.
He walks me everywhere he goes—
gently pushing, guiding it here and there,
up and down, like his own little compass.

Yesterday, he needed me more than usual.

my mind drifted to an invisible list…
But it felt less like a list—
and more like a mountain.

The laundry baskets.
The grocery bags.
The baking and making.
The endless stack of kids’ papers.
The appointments scrawled across the calendar.
The art deadlines.
The “Honey-do’s” I wish I had time to do.
Did I even pray this morning?
Is this sudden need for closeness
because I skipped his nap?

Oh, the house.
Three loads of dishes a day, it seems.
The bigger kids will be home soon—
with their chore charts and homework
and bustling afternoon chaos.

And just as I felt the weight rising,
he tugged on my hand again.

your gentle pace.
For pointing up at that plane in the sky—
one I almost missed
because I was too busy doing everything else.

Because in that moment it swept over me—
you, my sweet baby,
you are unaware of this invisible load.
You are completely at peace.

you don’t need all of me to be busy.
